Why Gold Coast water chemistry is harder to keep stable

Heat burns through chlorine fast

Warmer water holds less dissolved chlorine and UV breaks it down faster, so a dose that lasts a week in cooler weather can be gone in a couple of days over a Gold Coast summer. Without regular testing, chlorine levels can drop low enough for algae to get a foothold before you'd ever notice by eye.

Wet season dilution

Heavy summer storms can dump enough rain into an open pool to noticeably dilute chlorine and throw off pH and alkalinity in a single downpour. We adjust dosing after big rain events rather than sticking to a fixed routine, which is exactly the kind of thing an on-site test catches and a generic auto-doser can miss.

Salt systems are the norm here

Most Gold Coast pools run a salt or mineral chlorinator rather than manual dosing. They're lower-maintenance day to day, but salt cells still need their output and salt levels checked — run them too hard or too soft and you either burn out the cell early or get poor sanitation without knowing it.

Consequences of letting it slide

Bad balance isn't just a green pool risk — low pH corrodes metal fittings, ladders and heat pump components, while high pH and calcium cause scaling on tiles and equipment. A cheap fix (regular testing) avoids an expensive one (replacing corroded gear or re-tiling).
